Why You Will Love These Cinnamon Roll Overnight Oats

  • Fast prep: Everything comes together in about five minutes—stir, seal, refrigerate, and you’re done.
  • Customizable: Make them vegan, gluten-free, or add protein powder, nuts, or dried fruit to suit your preferences.
  • Cinnamon roll flavor: Brown sugar and cinnamon give these oats a nostalgic, bakery-style taste without the fuss.
  • Grab-and-go convenience: Refrigerate overnight and they’re ready when you are—perfect for mornings on the move.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

See the full ingredient list and measurements in the recipe card below.

Rolled oats, vanilla yogurt, cinnamon sticks, vanilla and other ingredients arranged on surface.
  • Rolled oats: Use rolled (old-fashioned) oats for the best texture in overnight oats. Quick oats can work in a pinch but may require a slight milk adjustment. Avoid steel-cut oats unless you plan to cook them first.
  • Milk: Whole milk or vanilla almond milk work well, but use any milk you enjoy—oat, soy, cashew, etc.
  • Vanilla yogurt: Thick vanilla Greek yogurt gives creaminess. If you only have plain yogurt, add about 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract and adjust sweetener to taste. For dairy-free, choose a vegan yogurt.
  • Brown sugar: Brown sugar contributes that cinnamon-roll sweetness. Substitute maple syrup or coconut sugar if preferred.

Recipe Variations

Try one or more of these additions to change up the flavor or texture:

  • Raisins or chopped dates
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (toasted if possible)
  • White or regular chocolate chips
  • Protein powder
  • Toasted coconut
  • Ground flaxseed (flaxmeal)
  • Fresh fruit or berries
  • Sliced banana (add at serving)
  • A splash of heavy cream for extra richness
  • A spoonful of cream cheese stirred in

Step 1: Combine all ingredients in a sealable jar or container and stir well.

Step 2: Refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours. In the morning, add more milk if desired and enjoy warm or cold.

Topping Options

  • Cinnamon Drizzle: Whisk 1 tablespoon maple syrup with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and drizzle over the oats.
  • Icing Drizzle: Whisk 3 tablespoons powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon melted butter, a drop of vanilla, and enough milk (1 teaspoon at a time) to reach the desired consistency; then drizzle on top.

Recipe Tips

  • Any sealable container will do: Mason jars are handy but a bowl covered with plastic wrap or foil works as well.
  • Storage: Stored in an airtight container, these overnight oats will keep up to 5 days in the refrigerator.
  • Gluten-free option: Choose certified gluten-free oats if you need to avoid gluten, as not all oats are processed in gluten-free facilities.
