I’m a big whipped cream fan and usually keep a flavored version on hand. This pumpkin spice whipped cream is the ideal fall update—simple, fast, and delicious.

Why You Will Love This Pumpkin Whipped Cream:

  • Under 10 minutes to make. Freshly whipped cream is quick and tastes far better than store-bought. A few minutes of whipping elevates any dessert or drink.
  • Perfect fall flavor. Pumpkin spice and cinnamon make this whipped cream a seasonal favorite without being overpowering.
  • Versatile topper. Great on pies, cakes, cookies, ice cream, coffee, and other fall treats. Swap classic whipped cream for this spiced version to add warmth and aroma.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream, very cold. Heavy cream has higher fat content than light whipping cream and holds peaks better.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar. Powdered sugar contains a bit of cornstarch which helps stabilize and slightly firm the whipped cream.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract. Use a good-quality vanilla for best flavor.
  • 1 tsp cinnamon. I like extra cinnamon to boost warmth—adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 tsp pumpkin spice. Store-bought or homemade pumpkin spice both work well.
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin purée (optional). Adds color and a gentle pumpkin note, but you can omit it if you prefer just the spice.

How to Make Pumpkin Spice Whipped Cream

Making this whipped cream is easy and fast. Keep ingredients and tools cold for best results.

Add the very cold heavy cream, powdered sugar, cinnamon, pumpkin spice and vanilla to a large mixing bowl (chill the bowl and beaters for 10–15 minutes if you like). Using an electric mixer (handheld or stand), whip on medium-high until stiff peaks form—about 3–5 minutes. Stiff peaks mean the cream holds its shape when the whisk is lifted.

Gently fold in the pumpkin purée until evenly combined. Chill until ready to use. Transfer to a piping bag to decorate cupcakes or pipe onto pies, or simply spoon dollops over desserts and drinks.

Recipe Tips

  • Keep everything cold. Chill the cream, bowl, and beaters. A metal bowl retains cold well and helps the cream whip faster.
  • Best as a topper. This whipped cream is ideal for piping onto cupcakes or spooning over pies, cheesecakes, crisps, ice cream, and coffee. It’s not ideal as a structural filling for multi-layered cakes without stabilization.
  • Pumpkin is optional. Pumpkin purée adds color and a subtle pumpkin note, but the spices provide the primary flavor if you omit it.

Storage

For best texture, make this whipped cream within two hours of serving. It will keep in the refrigerator for one to two days but may soften since it’s not stabilized with gelatin. If it softens, whisk in a little additional powdered sugar or beat briefly to re-firm it.

You can freeze portions in a freezer-safe container for up to three months; thaw in the refrigerator before serving and gently re-whip if needed.

Fixing Over-Whipped Cream

If the cream becomes grainy or lumpy from over-whipping, rescue it by adding 1 tablespoon of heavy cream at a time and whisking on low until smooth and creamy again.

This pumpkin whipped cream is delicious on its own, but here are favorite ways to enjoy it:

  • Spoon a dollop over hot or iced coffee for an autumn twist.
  • Top pumpkin desserts, pies, cheesecakes, and crisps.
  • Serve over ice cream or apple desserts for extra creaminess.
  • Spread or pipe onto cupcakes and sandwiches between cookies for a festive treat.
