Slow-Cooker Country-Style BBQ Ribs: Tender, Fall-Off-the-Bone Recipe

These are the easiest country-style ribs you’ll ever make. This Slow Cooker Boneless Pork Ribs recipe takes only minutes to assemble—set it and forget it—then return hours later to tender, fall-apart BBQ ribs the whole family will devour.

Country-style ribs can be surprising the first time you see them. Despite the name, they are frequently boneless cuts from the shoulder or butt of the pig and offer a meaty, rib-like texture without the fuss of a full slab.

These slow cooker ribs are perfect when you want classic BBQ flavor without the hands-on work. If you need a faster method, air fryer country-style ribs are a great alternative.

Why We Love These Crockpot BBQ Country Style Ribs

  • Simple compared to traditional ribs. Country-style cuts are easier to handle than a large slab; a rub and some BBQ sauce are all you need before tossing them in the slow cooker.
  • Only minutes to prep. This recipe is low-effort: a few minutes of prep and 6–8 hours on low yields fork-tender ribs with minimal hands-on time.
  • Highly customizable. Use your favorite BBQ sauce or vary the spices to change the flavor profile. Different side dishes will also create new meal combinations.

What Are Country Style Ribs?

Country-style ribs typically come from the pork shoulder or blade end near the shoulder, not from the rib cage. They are often sold boneless and are an economical, flavorful cut well suited to slow cooking because of their marbling. For this recipe, choose ribs from the shoulder or butt for the best, most tender results.

Ingredient Notes

  • Boneless pork ribs: Labeled as country-style ribs in grocery stores. Look for cuts from the butt/shoulder, not the loin, to avoid a dry result. Bone-in or boneless will both work.
  • Seasoning: Salt, black pepper, ground mustard, paprika and a pinch of cayenne (optional). Smoked paprika adds depth, but regular paprika works well too.
  • BBQ sauce: Use your favorite store-bought sauce or a simple homemade version—this keeps the recipe quick and flexible.
  • Optional additions: Brown sugar, chili powder, onion powder, or red pepper flakes can be added for variation.

Step 2: Pour BBQ sauce over the ribs until they are covered.

Step 3: Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours (or high for 4–6 hours). The ribs are done when the meat easily pulls apart with a fork.

Step 4: Serve with extra BBQ sauce. For a caramelized finish, spread ribs on a baking sheet, brush with additional sauce, and broil 2–3 minutes until bubbling.

Recipe Tips

  • Eat with a fork or your hands. When cooked low and slow the meat falls apart—serve as-is, shred for sandwiches, or pile on buns.
  • If the meat is still tough, it needs more time. Slow cooking yields tender results; extend the cook time until the ribs pull apart easily.
  • Cook on low for best texture. Low, slow heat produces the most tender, flavorful pork.
  • Optional broil for a glaze. Broil briefly after brushing with extra sauce to add a sticky, caramelized finish.

Storage Instructions

Store leftovers in an airtight container, preferably with some of the cooking juices or sauce, for 3–4 days. Reheat gently in the oven, microwave, air fryer, or slow cooker and add extra sauce when serving.

To freeze, cool completely, then place in a freezer-safe container with sauce. Freeze up to 3 months.

Slow Cooker BBQ Country Style Ribs

By: Lorie Yarro
The easiest ribs you will ever make. Prep in minutes and return to melt-in-your-mouth BBQ ribs.
BBQ boneless pork ribs on wax paper lined cutting board topped with chopped fresh parsley.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 6 hours
Total Time: 6 hours 10 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 3 lb. country style ribs (use butt/shoulder ribs, not loin)*, boneless or bone-in will work
  • 1 ½ c BBQ Sauce
  • 2 tsp ground mustard
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • ¼ – ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 – 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ tsp cracked pepper
  • ½ tsp sea salt, more or less to taste

Instructions

  • Place country-style ribs in the slow cooker. Add mustard, cayenne, paprika, salt, pepper and garlic, tossing to coat the meat and pressing the seasoning in. Pour BBQ sauce over the meat to cover.
  • Cook 6–8 hours on low until the meat falls apart with a fork. Transfer to a serving dish and spoon additional sauce over the ribs. Optional: broil 2–3 minutes until the sauce bubbles. Let rest about 5 minutes before serving.
  • If cooking on high, allow 4–6 hours but expect slightly less tender results than low and slow.

Notes

*For the most moist and tender ribs, choose cuts from the butt or shoulder rather than the loin. Loin cuts are leaner and suited to quicker cooking and can dry out when slow-cooked.

These ribs fall apart when cooked properly, making them easy to eat with a fork or to shred for sandwiches.

If the meat is still tough, give it more time. Slow cooking will eventually make the ribs fork-tender.

Broil briefly after saucing for a sticky finish. Broil 2–3 minutes until sauce bubbles for caramelization.
