If you love cheesecake and red velvet, this dip will be a new favorite. It’s rich, creamy, and delicious with a wide range of dippers—graham crackers, marshmallows, cookies, berries, or straight from the spoon.

This recipe grew from a simple cheesecake dip idea and evolved into a red velvet version that’s been a hit with family and friends. It’s quick to make and easy to adapt.

It’s a wonderful choice for Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day, game-day gatherings, or any celebration that needs a sweet centerpiece. Serve alongside other treats to build a dessert board everyone will love.

Why You Will Love This Red Velvet Dip:

  • Easy and fast: A handful of ingredients and about ten minutes are all you need. Use Cool Whip to save time if you prefer.
  • Perfect for parties: Festive and crowd-pleasing, it works for Valentine’s gatherings, Super Bowl parties, or any event where you want a sweet dip.
  • Kid-friendly: The bright color and familiar flavors make this a hit with kids and adults alike.
  • Great with many dippers: Create a dessert charcuterie board with graham crackers, pretzels, chocolates, marshmallows, fruit, and cookies.

Recipe Ingredients:

  • heavy whipping cream: For the best texture use cold heavy whipping cream; Cool Whip can be substituted for convenience.
  • cream cheese: One 8 oz. block, softened. Full-fat cream cheese gives the richest flavor; low-fat varieties will also work.
  • sugar: A small amount to sweeten.
  • powdered sugar: Common in no-bake cheesecakes to add sweetness and stability; adjust to taste.
  • vanilla: Use real vanilla extract if possible to round out the flavor.
  • cocoa powder: Unsweetened cocoa brings the chocolate note typical of red velvet. For a deeper chocolate flavor, substitute melted chocolate chips (melt and add in place of the cocoa).
  • food coloring: Red food coloring creates the classic red velvet hue. Add more or less to reach the color you want; natural colorings or beet juice can be used if preferred.

Cocoa powder, vanilla and red food coloring added to creamed cream cheese in glass bowl.
  • Beat the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form. Use very cold cream for best results.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese with the sugar and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  • Add the cocoa powder, vanilla, and food coloring to the cream cheese mixture and mix until combined. If using cocoa powder, stir gently at first to avoid a dusty cloud.

  • Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture gently until smooth. Add extra food coloring if you want a stronger red.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl, top with sprinkles or white chocolate chips if desired, and chill until ready to serve.

Recipe Tips:

  • Food coloring is optional. Skip the dye for a chocolate cheesecake dip, or choose natural colorings like beet juice if you prefer.
  • Soften before serving. Let the dip sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes to make it easier to scoop and dip.
  • Customize it. Stir in white chocolate chips, extra chocolate chips, sprinkles, or mix-ins of your choice.

Dipper Options:

Classic dippers are all delicious, but feel free to experiment. Here are ideas to get you started:

  • Graham crackers (regular or chocolate)
  • Marshmallows
  • Shortbread or Biscoff cookies
  • Pretzels or pretzel chips
  • Vanilla wafers
  • Pieces of chocolate or biscotti
  • Strawberries and other fresh berries
  • Oreos (any flavor)
  • Dates or dried apricots
  • Animal crackers

Storage:

Store the dip in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap in the refrigerator for up to one week. Let it sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes before serving to soften slightly.

You can freeze the dip in a freezer-safe container for up to three months. Thaw completely in the refrigerator before serving.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Chill: 15 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • ½ c heavy whipping cream
  • 1 8oz. block cream cheese, softened
  • 3 T sugar
  • c powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ c plus 1 T cocoa powder (*or melted chocolate chips for richer flavor)
  • 1 tsp red food coloring (more or less to taste)

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form. Set aside. In another bowl, beat the cream cheese with powdered sugar and sugar until creamy, scraping down the sides as needed.
  • Add the vanilla, food coloring, and cocoa powder to the cream cheese mixture and beat until fully combined.
  • Gently fold in the whipped cream until the dip is smooth and creamy. Add extra food coloring if you prefer a deeper red.
  • Chill until ready to serve. Enjoy with your favorite dippers or straight from the spoon.

Notes

  • You can skip the food coloring if desired. Without dye you’ll have a chocolate cheesecake dip that still tastes great. Natural colorings are an option too.
  • Set the dip out for about 10 minutes before serving so it softens slightly for easy dipping.
  • Mix in extras if you like. White chocolate chips, sprinkles, or extra chocolate chips are all delicious additions.
